Diabetes : How big a problem is it?

It has been estimated that in 2011 there were of the order of 191,000 people in Ireland of all age groups with diabetes.

2012 study from the International Diabetes Federation estimated that in Ireland there could be almost 280,000 people with diabetes by the year 2030.

Another way of looking at these figures is that at present approximately one in twenty people in Ireland have diabetes and one in eight people over 60years of age have diabetes.
